FEATURED FANTASY COMIC

Verner's Tale

Fully written and illustrated by Sara Voaideș

When a magical blight threatens the forests around Cederbjerg and the Court Mage dies, the swan-winged Prince Verner must embark on a quest to find a cure. It’s a race against the ticking clock of the people’s displeasure, because they are already turning the blame on those they associate with magic, like Verner and his sister. On the way Verner is joined by others with stories and appearances as strange as his: A tin soldier who struggles to appear human, a robber girl who makes friends with ravens, a fairy queen who builds her own wings, and creatures straight from a child’s imagination who oppose his quest at every step and carry… a familiar, dreaded signature.

Verner’s Tale is an ongoing fantasy comic about a forgotten fairytale character from H.C. Andersen’s stories. A simple, fun thought-exercise turned into an exploration fairytale themes, of what it means to be visibly strange, of forgiveness and acceptance, and growing up.

ABOUT ...

the Comic Wizard

Adventure is a dangerous business, but I’m a bookworm who hacked the system: With the magic of illustration, fantastical lands and grand quests are right at my fingertips. Without even stepping foot outside my cozy little workshop!

I use a blend of techniques to illustrate stories, whether they are my own creations or I collaborate with an author, but my traditional training and use of art materials still tends to shine through. Much of my work pays homage to the Golden Age illustrators of the early 20th century, especially my inks.

I have tackled whimsical tales, fairytale retellings, poetry, (and even that one memoir).
So if you also have a story to tell, let’s talk!
